Pattern of the Month - August - Doctor Who - The Eighth DoctorWow! It's August already. Where has the year gone? I have a pumpkin vine with two proto pumpkins on it (not yet pollinated) and I'm hoping that when October comes I'll have home-grown pumpkins to carve. Also, Fan Expo is just weeks away. Canada's answer to San Diego's Comicon is also the primary source of my autographs page.
Also I am making progress on my ambitious pumpkin carving goal for the year. As of the time of this writing I have completed the carving of the first 5 Doctors (in addition to numbers 10 and 11 carved in previous years). I'm hoping to get Doctor 6 carved and photographed in anticipation of meeting Colin Baker at Fan Expo. I'm such a geek, but I can't wait!
But this month's Doctor, the 8th was portrayed by Paul McGann. Of all eleven canonical Doctor's, McGann's time on television was the shortest: a mere two hours. Fox, an American television network, filmed a two hour pilot for an anticipated relaunch of the series in the United States in 1996. It was scheduled poorly in the US, got poor ratings and didn't become the hoped-for series. Despite this, Paul McGann and Sylvester McCoy are the two longest serving Doctors as McCoy was the Doctor from 1987 until he was replaced in 1996 (he appeared in the movie) and McGann served from 1996 until 2005 (the modern series revival). They both made appearances as the Doctor during this time and very much kept the show alive until 2005. They have our gratitude!
