Pumpkin Jack Welcomes You!
Pumpkin Jack is all about carving pumpkins. I have patterns, instructions, anecdotes, carving galleries and even Halloween stories. Come in and stay a while. Please return often.
The majority of the patterns on this site are quiet complex and require hours of time to complete. If you find them to be intimidating or, perhaps, you would like a little practice first before tackling them, you might wish to attempt some more traditional patterns here, some Halloween images here or my extensive collection of smiley face patterns here.

Pattern of the Month - May - Hunters - Buffy SummersWelcome to May! This brings us halfway to Halloween. Six months have passed and six remain. Noon of May the 1st is exactly half way. Also, Buffy Summers, the pattern of the month for May, is the fifth of ten themed patterns preceding Halloween. But why Buffy, you foolishly ask?
The character of Buffy has become iconic in pop culture and horror. Originally the title, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," was something you would say with your tongue planted firmly in your cheek. It wasn't something you would take seriously and the 1992 movie didn't play out well, so a Buffy television series in 1997 might have taken with one's tongue in the same position. How wrong you would have been!
For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, Buffy is a vampire slayer. A slayer is one of a series of girls down through the centuries chosen at random to be gifted (cursed) with strength and skill to hunt the vampires. When one dies, another gains the power and the fight continues.
Potential slayers are found and trained by the self-appointed Watchers Council. They missed Buffy until she suddenly became the Slayer then she had to be quickly prepared for her destiny. With the lifetime of training, Buffy also didn't receive the lifetime of indoctrination. Buffy didn't follow the rules. Buffy was oddly successful.
As a TV series, Buffy had found its niche. A blend of teenage angst with horror, comedy and drama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer had strong characterization and direction to back back strong stories creating an immensely satisfying product. Even years later, after multiple viewings, the stories are captivating.
