Pumpkin Jack Welcomes You!

Pumpkin Jack is all about carving pumpkins. I have patterns, instructions, anecdotes, carving galleries and even Halloween stories. Come in and stay a while. Please return often.

The majority of the patterns on this site are quiet complex and require hours of time to complete. If you find them to be intimidating or, perhaps, you would like a little practice first before tackling them, you might wish to attempt some more traditional patterns here, some Halloween images here or my extensive collection of smiley face patterns here.

Number of patterns so far: 1457.5

Pattern of the Month - October - Monsters - Michael Myers

And welcome to the end of our annual tour on the theme of Monsters, Hunters and Creators. We round it out with a monster and no monster would be more appropriate than Michael Myers, the seemingly indestructible psychopath from John Carpenter's classic Halloween.

While Michael is typical of the slasher genre and Halloween may be tame by today's standards, I feel that the strength of the movie is in its suspense. You come to like Jamie Lee Curtis as you see a day in her life. She and her friends seem pretty normal. Then Myers enters the picture and demonstrates who he is and what he is capable of. This isn't the scary part of the movie. The friends are just red shirts (gratuitous Star Trek reference). Watching him threaten and stalk Jamie Lee Curtis through close encounter after close encounter is terrifying. Suspense!

Enjoy your Halloween!

John Carpenter
