Pumpkin Jack Welcomes You!

Pumpkin Jack is all about carving pumpkins. I have patterns, instructions, anecdotes, carving galleries and even Halloween stories. Come in and stay a while. Please return often.

The majority of the patterns on this site are quiet complex and require hours of time to complete. If you find them to be intimidating or, perhaps, you would like a little practice first before tackling them, you might wish to attempt some more traditional patterns here, some Halloween images here or my extensive collection of smiley face patterns here.

Pattern of the Month - January

Okay, it's time to ramp up for 2015. This year our theme is Urban Fantasy. Simply put, this is about fantasy stories that take place in a modern setting, typically a city. While this is typically referenced as a recent concept with a strong teen fiction contribution, C. S. Lewis' Narnia series touched on the concept by sending children from the modern (at the time) age to a fantasy world.

This month's pattern taps into the popular teen source for urban fantasy. Harry Potter has had a huge influence on an entire generation both as a written work and a film series. While much of the action for this series takes place at Hogwart's School, the background is our own modern world. Some of the conflict for the stories comes from not letting knowledge of the magical world leak into the mainstream of the normal world. Seeing magic woven seemlessly into the mundane is part of the charm of Potter.
